Blue "Sa Lan" Bamboo Teapot With Silver Rim

Artist Fu Shan Xu‘s "Sa Lan" series combines multiple techniques in this masterfully crafted teapot.

The deep blue glaze is applied using the Sa Lan method, or “Splashed Blue” — a technique made popular in the Qing Dynasty where cobalt pigment is blown or splattered to create organic, flowing patterns across the surface.

Afterwards, the bamboo motif and accompanying poem are carved into the bare clay using traditional seal-carving methods. The carved areas are then highlighted in white glaze, giving them clarity and contrast. Although the teapot’s surface is smooth to the touch, your fingers can sense the subtle rhythm of the carving beneath the glaze.

Compact and thoughtfully designed, this upright teapot features a built-in ball filter for smooth, even pouring. The spout is finished with a hand-applied silver rim — left in its natural state to preserve its quiet luster — and the handle is shaped for a steady, balanced grip.

Let its quiet strength and elegance accompany you in your daily tea practice.
