Xuande-Inspired Qinghua Dragon Incense Burner
$680.00Inspired by bronze censers of the Xuande period of the Ming dynasty, this incense burner reinterprets the weight and presence of an ancient bronze form through the delicacy of blue and white porcelain.
The rounded body is wheel-thrown by hand, while its sculpted animal-mask handles and three elephant-form feet are individually shaped and attached. Around the vessel, a powerful dragon moves through clouds and waves in deep cobalt blue, which is a motif inspired by the bold dragon paintings of the Yongle and Xuande periods.
The porcelain is high-fired using traditional support-firing methods, leaving subtle traces of warm flint-red firing marks (huoshi hong) beneath the feet. Inside, the porcelain is smooth and softly luminous, almost jade-like to the eye.
A hand-carved African blackwood lid completes the piece, its dark openwork surface creating a quiet contrast against the luminous Qinghua porcelain.
At 8.8 cm high, it has the presence of a larger ceremonial vessel while remaining intimate enough for a scholar’s desk or tea room.
