$230.00This small incense burner takes its inspiration from the xinglu (行炉), a distinctive incense-burner form found in northern Chinese ceramics of the Tang and Five Dynasties periods.
Originally associated with Buddhist incense rituals, the xinglu developed from portable burners that could be carried during ceremonial incense offerings, before gradually finding a place in everyday incense practice.
The body is finished in a traditional wood-ash glaze. In keeping with historical methods, the feet are intentionally left unglazed, revealing the natural clay beneath. With handling and use, the exposed clay will gradually develop a subtle patina, lending the piece an increasingly quiet, time-worn character.
Simple in form and rooted in an older way of making, the burner carries a sense of warmth and antiquity that will continue to deepen with use.
Suitable for incense-seal burning, stick incense, or traditional indirect incense heating.
